Lakes are a Swiss national asset and thus provide many potential sites to develop limnological investigations. Being in a landlocked country, however, Swiss students and scientists need to go abroad to gain experience marine issues. For many years COL supported several marine stations in France and Germany securing to Swiss scholars a preferential access to them.
The activities included organization of courses at different levels, participation in field and oceanographic campaigns, possibilities for sabbatical terms, etc.
Since recently and following the establishment of the Platform of Geosciences of the Academy the direct annual support to these stations have been discontinued. Swiss scholars and researchers, however, can always profit from these facilities as well as from those at any other marine station through partial COL funding. Swiss-based researchers interested in organizing courses or research stages in marine stations please contact Jan Pawlowski or Daniel Ariztegui.
